Recent scientific evidence has demonstrated a direct link between Alzheimer’s disease and aluminum exposure. A recent case study published, demonstrated early onset Alzheimer’s disease after direct exposure to aluminum. This aluminum, traveled through the bloodstream and directly to the brain. The accumulation of aluminum in the brain is known to be one of the identified causes of Alzheimer’s disease. Here’s a link to the paper: http://journal.frontiersin.org/Journal/10.3389/fneur.2014.00212/abstract So how do we avoid too much aluminum exposure? All the things that would come to mind include, aluminum foil, antiperspirant, toothpaste, cookware, and those little pouch drinks that are lined with aluminum. These are every day items we use everyday, but it’s a matter of decreasing exposure as much as possible. For example, try to avoid using aluminum foil for grilling, as it potentially increases your exposure by over 100%! You can also avoid cigarette smoke, since they are filled with aluminum vapors as well. To try and fight aluminum exposure, try and eat foods that will help neutralize aluminum in your diet. Here’s are a few foods that come to mind: uncooked fresh fruits and vegetables including spinach, potatoes, asparagus, avocado, squash, okra, cauliflower, broccoli, walnuts, garlic, tomatoes, protein sources such as grass fed meats, and local farm eggs (we’ve featured Rusty Rooster Ranch in our farm visit for those golden yolks and tenderly treated chickens). Here’s a delicious recipe for edamame dip that Holly created and loves! Load this up with a side of veggies, and you are on your way! https://pharm2fork.com/edamame-dip/
